Ethiopia Halo Beriti Special Prep
About this coffee
Halo Beriti Washing Station was established in 2014 and serves 750 smallholder producers, who deliver their coffee in cherry form. This particular lot is part of a "special preparation" in which hand-sorting was done repeatedly throughout the receiving and drying process, ensuring that only perfect coffees made it into the bags. Ethiopian coffee is grown on small multi-crop plots by farmers who deliver their cherries to central washing stations for sorting, payment, and processing via washed or natural methods on raised beds. Because these stations blend cherries from hundreds of producers into day lots, individual producer traceability is difficult, though consistent sourcing is maintained by partnering with the same stations each year. Due to a lack of access, these smallholders typically do not use fertilizers or pesticides in their production.
