Colombia Familia Cantillo
About this coffee
Truly family oriented operation, this year’s offering from the Cantillo family is composed of coffee grown from each son’s farm and processed together. The variety is 100% Cantillo. Cantillo family noticed a few coffee trees that looked different from the rest of the plants. Because of these unique characteristics, they decided to selectively harvest cherries from those trees, propagate them, and continue planting them. They named this selection the "Cantillo variety." Years later, we had a DNA analysis conducted by World Coffee Research, which showed that this variety is most closely related to Frontón. The team at World Coffee Research shared that Frontón is cultivated in Puerto Rico and originates from a selection within the LC-1661 population. This population descends from Timor Hybrid 832/1, like many of the Catimor varieties grown throughout Central America.
